Description
250ml MR MAC Leathercraft Antique Finish is a water-soluble leather colouring and antiquing product designed for raw, natural and vegetable-tanned leather. It adds rich colour while enhancing the recessed areas of carved, stamped and tooled patterns, creating greater contrast, depth and definition.
This leather antique finish is especially effective on decorative leatherwork because it settles into grooves, impressions and textured areas. The raised sections can then be wiped clean, leaving a darker antique effect in the lower areas. It is ideal for giving newly crafted leather a traditional, aged or professionally finished appearance.
The formula includes a built-in lacquer and sealer, so a separate sealing product is generally not required. If you would like additional shine and surface protection, MR MAC Seal & Shine can be applied after the antique finish has dried completely.

How to Apply
Make sure the leather is clean, dry and free from dust, oil or other surface contamination. Test the antique finish on a small piece of matching leather before treating the complete project, as the final colour can vary depending on the leather.
Apply a generous, even coat using a soft cloth, sponge or suitable applicator. Work the finish into all carved, stamped and recessed areas. Just before it dries completely, wipe away the excess from the raised surfaces, allowing the product to remain in the lower sections.
Additional coats may be applied to create a deeper colour or stronger antique effect. Some leathercrafters use several coats to achieve their preferred result. Allow each coat to dry before applying another.
Why Choose MR MAC Antique Finish?
This antique finish colours and highlights leather in one straightforward application. Its ability to remain in recessed patterns makes it particularly useful for displaying detailed carving, stamping and tooling.
The built-in lacquer and sealer simplifies the finishing process, while the water-soluble formula makes it easier to work with. The practical 250ml bottle is suitable for regular leathercraft use without requiring a large bulk container.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this product colour the leather?
Yes. It changes the colour of raw or natural leather while creating additional depth in recessed patterns.
Does it need to be sealed?
A separate sealer is generally unnecessary because the formula contains a built-in lacquer and sealer. MR MAC Seal & Shine may be used if additional shine is desired.
Can it be used on chrome-tanned or finished leather?
It is designed primarily for raw, natural and vegetable-tanned leather. Always test it first because sealed or pre-finished leather may prevent proper absorption.
Can I apply more than one coat?
Yes. Repeat the application until you achieve the preferred colour depth and highlighting effect.
Will the final colour look exactly like the bottle colour?
The finished result can vary depending on the leather type, natural colour, absorbency and number of coats applied.
